R E A L S T E E L

Real Steel is a really nice movie. I enjoyed the whole movie, it is meaningful & exciting plus some sense of humor and touching moments. And it is my ‘habit’ to want to learn thing from the movie I watched. Sounds spiritual, I love to watch movie while conversing with Holy Spirit. And guys if you never try that before, I tell you, it is fun! You will never know the amazing thoughts that Holy Spirit will drop into you that will make you “Whoaa, that is so so true!”
Charlie used to be a very popular boxer. Confident. Brave. Never fear. Little did he know the one-time-failure he faced in the boxing ring took away his confidence and courage. Though it was still his dream to be the successful and sought-after boxer, he didn’t realize that his failure caused him to hide behind the robots business. He no longer had the same courage like before to fight as who he is and face the congregation as a real person. But he still strive to spend a lot of money on robot (after robots, after robots) just to hope to win a game. Behind all his bad & hasty decisions, there is fear. Fear of failing again. He didn’t want to fail again, so much so he could do anything just to make sure he could win a game.
Fear eats us up. Fear causes us not to be able to think wise. Do we have any fear of failure in the past that we kept inside, undealt, and had been eating us up? Be honest with yourself and face the fear. But don’t face it alone. Else, it will only become fear meets fear. There will be no end. Face it with God and let Him heals you. When fear meets God, fear will disappear. God always win! =)
When Charlie got the opportunity to really box again (though not face to face with the robot, but he is able to use his skill again on his opponent), new sense of courage and confidence started to flow into him. He is starting to regain himself. He is becoming more and more like himself again. This is what we want in our life. This is also what God wants to help us through. We must not allow any fear to eat up good character and good value and great hope in us. We must be able to face the fear with the help of God. Overcome it and become who we are again. Let me tell you who you are. You are more than conqueror. You heard me, MORE THAN conqueror! A conqueror is already very great, but God says you are MORE THAN THAT!! Romans 8:37 says we are more than conquerors through Him (God) who loves us. You can also read Romans 8: 31-39. The words of God is for everyone, is not only applicable to Christians but to everyone. John 3:16 indicates that God loves everyone J
Another thing I learn is no matter how the world advances in technology, robots and stuff like that, in the end, human is still the greatest. Why? Because we are special breed from God. When God creates human, He breathed His spirit into us. So being human is very privilege. We are from God, and we have a higher purpose on this planet Earth. Human rocks! Human rules the world! Never ever let the world rules you. Never let money controls you. Never let technology drives you around. Never let entertainment forms you. You drive the world around. You be the driver! And engage into the purpose and plan that God has for you. You are meant to rule and reign in life with God. (see Genesis 1:26 & Romans 5:17)
One more thing I learn from the movie is that every child needs the input of a father. No matter how great a mother can take care of a child all by herself, she couldn’t provide the child certain thing that only a father can give. A man figure. And also a sense of being protected. Max, Charlie’s 11-year-old son, realized he needed so much something that he is deprived of since childhood – the sense of being protected. The sense of feeling secured even being bullied, the sense of safety though danger is ahead, knowing that the father will come and protect him. He didn’t have that since young.
Many children nowadays also either are deprived of father’s input, or mother’s input or parents’ input. But let me just talk about deprivation of father’s input, as in Max in the movie. While watching the movie, the Lord just told me that He loves all the fatherless. And He also loves the widow. Not to say that He only loves the fatherless and widow, but in loving them, He specifically point them out. (it is because they needed that). Let God be your Father today, to protect you all the time. Psalm 68:5 says Father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling. Forget all the hurts in the past, and let God loves you with His Fatherly nature, day by day.
If you are reading this and you are fatherless, you can allow the Fatherly nature of God fills you right now. He certainly knows what you had been going through while growing up. He definitely knows your longing of having a father’s touch, having someone that can protect you in adverse situation; though most likely while growing up, you eventually come to realise you would never have that, so you toughen up yourself and be strong so that you can protect yourself when things are not going on well. You may even stand up to defend your mother, because seeing her take care of you all by herself, you have a new sense of responsibility that you will never want to hurt your mother again.
That time in the cinema, the Lord just told me He knows all the fatherless in the world. He knows you by name. He always wants to be there to protect you. He knows when you cry in your heart when nobody else knows. He really knows. And it is OK to feel weak at times and acknowledge that you need someone to protect you. You may not used to it as you had been protecting yourself for so long and had been tough and strong for so long. Now the Lord wants to tell you, “My child, let me protect you when you are weak. Let me encourage you when you are down. Let me be strong for you so that you can lean on Me, and not leaning on yourself. When you are weak, you no longer need to strive to be strong, you simply come to Me and let me embrace you. I love You.”
I don’t know whether you cry when you watch this movie, but I did. Tears rolling down and I tried to pretend nothing happen, but my husband noticed it  ;p
Partly because some part of the movie is so touching, but mostly is because I feel the heart of God towards all the fatherless. His love for them, so real, so great, so personal.
If you haven’t watch them, do catch up to watch. Enjoy!
